Rosmini College has adopted the words of Pope Francis, "Mercy is the beating heart pf the Gospel", as its theme for 2016 and intends to live out this theme by our actions to those less fortunate than us.
Our Lenten commitment to almsgiving is to be tested this Friday, 18th March when we have a Mufti Day entitled $5 for Fiji. All students have been asked, if they can afford it, to give at least $5 on this day to help the people of Fiji to recover from the devastating cyclone that hit them a few weeks ago.
The boys have been encouraged by our Principal, Nixon Cooper, to sacrifice their own money towards this fund so that they are indeed ‘the beating heart of the Gospel’.
If any parents, Old Boys or friends of our Rosminian community wish to join in this donation, you are welcome to donate to our fund by making an online payment to 02 0272 0330978 00, reference FIJI.
Rosmini College Theme, 2016: “Mercy is the beating heart of the Gospel”.
Explanation: December 8th 2015 marked the beginning of a new liturgical year in our Catholic Church. Pope Francis proclaimed this the Holy Year of Mercy. Last Friday despite the chaos caused by the Bus Strike our Young Vinnies Leaders David Lalor, Matthew Kereama, Jacob Ridling and Salaam Iwaz, attended the first meeting of the Auckland Secondary Schools Council at McLaurin Hall in the City.
Our first Young Vinnies meeting in Week 2 saw over 40 boys turn up to commit themselves to working for the poor. This was a fantastic show of support so early and it looks like we are going to be in for a very busy year.
We believe in the Holy Spirit and in the Spirit’s powerful presence in the Church today
The Spirit, given by Jesus to the Church at Pentecost, enables the Lord to continue to be present with us today and to continue his saving mission. The Spirit imparts wisdom and knowledge to us and gives us our various spiritual gifts, which are found in the Bible. We are called to recognize and share these gifts with the community. The Spirit helps us to continue to develop our faith and to grow in our relationship with God.
Catholic Character is at the very heart of Rosmini College. It is something that our school is very proud of but perhaps it has not been articulated enough in recent years.
Over 2016, we plan to take a fresh look at the Catholic values of our school and how we attempt to put these into action. Over the course of the year, these will be clearly stated, portion by portion, in our school’s website and in the monthly newsletter. It is hoped that they will act, not only to inform, but also to be as a source of reflection and discussion in our community.Read more ...
