CATHOLIC CHARACTER

Our Catholic Beliefs and Values

MAY

·         We are devoted to Mary, the Mother of God, and see the saints as true examples of holiness and faith. We pray through Mary and the saints and ask them to intercede for us.

Reflection

Some needs of the poor in this world require urgent attention. At the Wedding at Cana, Mary noticed that the host was running out of wine for the guests. Mary then persuaded Jesus to perform the miracle of turning water into wine. The Church has traditionally asked Mary to intercede for us when we have urgent needs. She brings these to God on our behalf. Many tragedies require urgent assistance and are in need of such prayer. The poor are always comforted to know that people, sometimes total strangers, are praying for them and what better way to add strength to our prayers than through Mary’s intercession.

PRAYER

 Dear Jesus,

Through the most pure heart of Mary,

We pray for all the poor of this world,

Especially those who feel unloved and alone in their poverty.

Help us to be prepared to suffer

In order to give the impoverished sustenance, security and hope.

May they also feel your compassion in the care that they receive,

And come to know that

The Lord is near to all who call upon him.

Amen
