Last week the Rosmini PTFA met for our annual Christmas dinner, marking the end of another successful year for the committee.  As is customary at this time we would like to take this opportunity to thank our faithful team of PTFA members and the parents, grandparents, teachers, students, old boys and wider community members who have supported us along the way.

In what has become a tradition at Rosmini, we kicked off the PTFA year by hosting the Year 7 Father/Son Breakfast.  This event is always well supported, and as the school’s history grows so too do the number of old boys appearing as “Fathers” in the “Old Boys and Sons” photo taken each year.  If you have a son starting at Rosmini in 2015 please note 12th March in your diaries as the date set for next year’s breakfast.

In 2013 we successfully raised $41,500.  Our aim was to meet the cost of the new kitchen fit-out in the John Copson Sports Pavilion.  As most of you will be aware, this building was opened in early October and if you’re lucky enough to have been inside it I’m sure you will agree the kitchen looks good!  Having gone all out with three major fundraisers in 2013, this year we decided to rest the Cathay Pacific raffle and focus our efforts on the annual Quiz Night and the Rosmini Golf Day.

The Quiz Night was held in mid-June and once again was a sell-out event.  A great evening was enjoyed by those who attended, and with the addition of both a live and silent auction we raised $12,000.  19th of June is the date set for the 2015 event, so if you’re a forward planner slot that date in your diary now!

On the 16th October we hosted the Rosmini Golf Day at Waitemata Golf Course.  We were delighted with the level of support shown by both present and past members of the Rosmini community.  This year, as well as having all course tees sponsored, 21 teams registered to play and at the end of the day we had raised $13,800.

Our final commitment for the year was the hosting of supper for the Senior Boys’ Prize Giving, and on Sunday 7 December we will join with the wider Rosmini community in farewelling Tom Gerrard after 38 years of service to the College.

The PTFA is currently a team of 14 parents and this year we have been joined in our work by staff representative, Nixon Cooper, and BOT member, Sue Emmitt.  We meet once a month in the staff room at the college, from February – October.  Our meetings are fairly informal, but brief and to the point.  The funds we have raised throughout 2014 will be used to complete the revamp of the library.  Fresh faces are always welcome so when 2015 rolls around please consider joining us.  Our first meeting for 2015 will be held on Tuesday 10th February.  See the College website for meeting details.

On behalf of the PTFA I would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas, a Happy New Year and a long sun-filled summer!

Kim Byrne
