Dear Rosmini Parents
Did you know that Rosmini College is the only secondary school on the North Shore where Physical Education is a compulsory subject to Year 13? With 1100 boys participating in PE at least twice a week, at any one time four separate classes can be looking to utilise sports facilities within the school. While the Tom Gerrard Gymnasium is a fantastic facility it cannot accommodate four different classes when rain forces students indoors. Add to that, in the intermediate school alone, 12 basketball teams are looking for somewhere to practice their skills. For these reasons the Old Gym (as it is fondly known) is a facility used all day, every day!
Opened in 1974 this well utilised building is now urgently in need of a new floor. The Board of Trustees has asked the PTFA to make this $70,000 replacement flooring project the goal of our fundraising efforts in 2015.
The current PTFA is a small group, representing around 2% of the Parents and Caregivers of Rosmini College. So we need your help!
To raise some of the funds needed the PTFA is again planning two major fundraising events. The first is our annual Quiz Night and Auction being held on Friday 19h June in the school Auditorium. The second is a Golf Day Tournament to be held on Thursday 26th November at the Waitemata Golf Club. Please mark your diaries with these dates now!
Please consider donating an item for the Quiz Night Auction or a prize for the Golf Tournament. This could include a donation of professional services, leisure or sporting activities, accommodation, product or experience. If you cannot donate yourself can you use your influence to acquire a donation? Our fundraising team are happy to follow up suggested contacts. Please click here if you can help with a donation.
Any donation you can make is a gift to the present and future pupils of Rosmini College. Our current BOT Chairman, Mike Taylor, made such a gift when as a student, he participated in a ping-pongathon to raise funds for the construction of the old gym!
In 1971, then Principal Fr Catcheside wrote in The Rosminian. “Physical fitness is a basic and essential aspect of school life.” Forty-five years later we hope you too, will recognise the value of our sons regularly participating in PE classes and support this worthwhile cause.
