First flight for student plane
Rosmini College's 'One Foot in the Clouds' program has seen it's first flight, with Max Wong's RC plane taking off with help from teacher John Smith.
Mr Smith set up the extra-curricular program that sees students and teachers from six Auckland schools work towards building a human-powered aircraft. The first stage is building radio-controlled airplanes using kitsets. Students learn some theory of flight as well as construction skills. They then learn to fly the aircraft at a local flying club. Then, using these motors and controls, the students design and build their own model aircraft.
