Rosmini appoints new 1st XV coach
Rosmini College is pleased to announce the appointment of Richard Mayhew as head coach for our 1st XV rugby squad for the upcoming season.
Head boy of Rosmini in 2003, Richard has enjoyed rugby success in NZ and abroad. He was part of Rosmini's championship winning 2001 team, and the 2003 ‘Invincibles’ team that won the North Harbour Competition after an undefeated season. He played over 100 games for his local Northcote club, before going on to have a successful career in England playing for Newcastle Falcons and Yorkshire Carnegie from 2011-19.
Mayhew will be joined by fellow Old Boy and North Harbour rep Daniel Hilton-Jones as backs coach.
“It's a real honour and privilege to be able to coach the 1st XV next year alongside Dan. Some of my fondest rugby memories are wearing the red and blue Rosmini jersey and playing with my best mates. To be able to get back to where it all began and give back to a school that gave me so much brings a huge amount of excitement and I look forward to getting Rosmini rugby back to where it belongs!
“I also understand that my role comes with a big responsibility to grow and develop the players both on and off the field as young men, just as my coaches did to me over my time at Rosmini.”
Rosmini’s Director of Sport Rhys Edwards says he is thrilled to have Mayhew on board. “Richard has an impressive resume and brings a wealth of experience to our programme. Richard’s passion for both rugby and Rosmini will no doubt inspire our boys to strive for greatness.”
We wish Richard and his coaching staff every success in 2023.
