Rosmini Cricket Round Up: Week One 2023
The 1st XI had a solid start to their 2023 Auckland Cricket 1A campaign, with a five wicket win against the Avondale College 1st XI. It was great to see a strong team performance with a good number of useful contributions. The stand out performances came from Radeesha De Silva with 63 runs, and a superb all-round showing from Charlie Maling with 4 for 26 off 10 overs and 44 not out with the bat. The future is looking strong for our 1st XI!
It was a tougher day at the office for the 2nd XI in Pool 2 of the Senior A Limited Overs Comp. After winning the toss, we chose to bat in conditions that looked stable but perhaps a little unpredictable. Unfortunately, we weren’t able to string together any batting partnership of significance to allow us to set a competitive total. Looking at the modes of dismissal and the bowling we faced, we have the potential to set competitive totals with hard work and building our confidence as a team. Harry Noonan really stood out - bowling three maidens on the trot. We did create a few chances; however we were not able to make the most of these and the MAGS team chased our total down in just 15 overs. A huge thankyou to Orestis, Danny and Senith - great lads who slotted nicely into the group, and Year 10s Cody, Oscar and Kyle who really stepped up. We have a great bunch of keen and enthusiastic lads in our 2nd XI who want to do well and are capable of doing well in this grade.
The Colts 1 side had a great first hit out against Mt Roskill. The boys gelled together quickly and played with positive Rosmini attitudes. After posting 137 against a solid bowling side, the boys set out to defend their total. Unfortunately, wickets were tough to come by. However, their fielding was outstanding and some great catches were taken. Each player had a bowl, which allows us to assess the skills of every player. Mt Roskill eventually took the win after a rain affected end, but a lot was learned by all.
Colts 2 opened their season with a win against Green Bay High School. It was a low scoring game with some tight bowling and a very slow outfield! Rosmini batted first and our innings was anchored by a strong partnership between skipper Nathan Craig and Shaun Perera, ending up at 6/79. The Rosmini bowlers came in firing and Green Bay were dismissed for 26 with two wickets each for Sam Morrison and Carlos Nichols.
