An exciting month for Rosmini Cricket

An exciting month for Rosmini Cricket

First XI Trip to Brisbane

Departing on the final day of term three, the Rosmini College Cricket 1st XI embarked on an eight-day tour to Brisbane, Australia. The objective of the trip was to continue the program of re-building the Rosmini College cricket program, re-establish and foster new connections with Brisbane cricketing schools, prepare the 1st XI for its term four College Sport 1A campaign, and most importantly, provide lifelong memories for the boys fortunate enough to be part of the touring side.

The tour squad of 13 players was led by Rosmini College Director of Cricket, Mr Nick White, and 1st XI coach/manager Mr Kevin Clark. A grueling itinerary was prepared that would see two initial training days, then four 50-over matches to be played across the following five days. The tour was a tremendous success, with some great performances and a couple of victories over the Aussies to remember!

The touring squad consisted of:

Kyle Premadasa (c)
Charlie Maling (vc)
Jackson Walsh (vc)
Blake Jay
Cody Rummel
Fergus Maling
Harry Noonan
Jayden Clark
Liam Henderson
Oscar Lewis
Radeesha De Silva
Sam Murphy

Cricket Exchange at St Peters School, Cambridge

The second half of the cricket season kicked off with three van loads and three teams heading to Cambridge on Sunday 15 October to play St Peter’s School. For the first time we had an Intermediate-age team who experienced a baptism of fire, with many of the boys playing 40 overs and “you're out when you're out” for the first time. Rosmini bowled and fielded well, but struggled with the bat and came up short.

The Colts had a close loss but battled well. A slightly weakened 1st XI also played, having only recently returned from their Queensland tour. After a nail biter last season, St Peters were too good and showed why they are representing Northern Districts in the Gillette Cup in November.

The trip to Cambridge was a great way to warm up for the season at some very attractive cricket grounds. We will be back next year to avenge the clean sweep!

Quiz Night Fundraiser

On Friday 13 October our cricket community and its supporters gathered for a Quiz Night fundraiser. It was a highly successful evening, aimed at celebrating our sport and raising invaluable funds towards cricket coaching and facilities at our college.

We were delighted to see the venue absolutely filled to capacity! The night featured a standard quiz and a new “Quizingo” - a new bingo-style quiz round.

A huge thank you to all who attended, to those who donated items, to the members of our cricket committee and to the sports coordinators, all of whom did an amazing job of organising the event and supporting Rosmini Cricket.
