Auckland Junior Touch Champs
On Tuesday, Rosmini sent two Junior teams to the Auckland Junior Touch Champs at Cox’s Bay Park in the city.
Our Year 10 team, coached by Ray Te Whiu, started the day strong, with a 6-0 win over Papatoetoe followed by a 4-2 win over Harbour rivals Mahurangi. They then faced a tougher assignment, going toe to toe with Mt Albert. Three great tries from the boys wasn’t quite enough, with Mt Albert pipping us 3-4. Their last game was even more challenging, playing a very well drilled Auckland Grammar, who beat us 2-6. With only the top team per section going through to the Semi’s they ended their tournament with 2 wins and 2 losses.

Our Year 9 team, coached by Matua Manuel, were the only ‘B’ team on the day. They were there to gain experience, and faced top teams from Tamaki, Howick, One Tree Hill, and St Peter’s. Whilst they took a 3-1 win in their first match against Tamaki, the other 3 teams were just too strong, with 2-7, 0-8, 1-10 losses. They will however be better for the experience when they return as Year 10s in 2024.
