1st XI Hockey round-up
After a tumultuous season marked by injuries, the Rosmini Hockey 1XI team capped off their 2024 journey with an exhilarating final match against Takapuna Grammar in the Premier A1 competition. In an extended penalty shootout, the boys secured a hard-fought win, earning a commendable 5th place. It was a season defined by resilience, and this final game embodied the determination and team spirit that pushed us through to the very end.
Heading into the Mayhill Cup, we carried high hopes after last year’s runner-up finish. However, with a young team on board due to a last-minute substitution (a broken hand in our penultimate game), we knew it was going to be a challenge. The boys responded brilliantly, winning the first three games in a row. As we entered the crucial final pool match, we needed just a draw or win to reach the semi-finals. It was another heart-pounding contest, with the score tied until St. Paul’s College was awarded a penalty in the final 30 seconds, ultimately costing us the game and placing us 7th overall.
We are incredibly proud of the team’s efforts throughout the season. We also want to extend a heartfelt thank you to our amazing coaches, Josh Bowden and Brodie Harrison. Their unwavering dedication, time, and energy have been instrumental in getting the best out of each and every player. Your guidance and commitment to the boys are truly appreciated, and we’re grateful for all you’ve done to help us succeed.
Finally, we want to take a moment to celebrate our Year 13 players: Reuben D’Souza (our captain), Christian Forsyth-Jones, Oliver Murray, Jack Scott, and Flynn Willis (who, unfortunately, missed this season due to injury). A special congratulations goes to Reuben, who has earned a well-deserved spot in the U18 Future Black Sticks Squad!
We wish all of our Year 13 players the best of luck in their future endeavors.
Here’s to another season of growth, determination, and success!
