Rosmini competes at National Badminton tournament for the first time
On Sunday 1 September, six Rosmini students - Senith Chamod, Nemo Hernandez, Chris Huang, Clifford Vincely, Stanford Vincely, and Max William - flew to Wellington to participate in the New Zealand Secondary Schools Badminton Championships.
During the trip the boys participated in Mass at St Mary of the Angels. Max and Clifford were chosen for the Preparation of the Gifts and Senith was an Extraordinary Minister of Holy Communion.
The boys played against six other schools (Newlands College, Wellington College, John Paul College, St Patrick's College - Wellington, Whakatane High School, and Tamatea High School) where every tie (consisting of 2 doubles and 4 singles) began with both schools greeting each other in a lineup. During introductions with John Paul College and St Patrick's College, we prayed together as they were Catholic secondary schools. The tie with Whakatane High School was live-streamed on Wednesday 11 September from Whakaata Māori on YouTube.
This is the first time Rosmini has participated in the Badminton Nationals, with the boys experiencing something new and managing a new type of pressure. Despite winning only a few games and being far from the titles, the boys definitely enjoyed the tournament and had a blast throughout. Hopefully, the sport of badminton will continue to grow within the school.
A huge thanks to all the parents, Rosmini's sports coordinators, teachers and community who support the team to make this possible. A massive thanks to Mr Paul Hodkinson for helping manage the administration and especially to Mr Joseph Pham and Mr Christian Malaitai, who flew down, managed and coached the team throughout the week.
