Te Wiki o te reo Māori at Rosmini
This year Rosmini College celebrated Te Wiki o Te Reo Māori a week late - partly due to senior students sitting exams, and because we wanted to end the term on a high note!
Te Reo was prominent around the school all week, with displays in the library, daily prayers and readings in Mass said in Māori, activities in classrooms, and lots of games of Ki o Rahi played on the sports field. Rosmini students enjoyed competing in this traditional Māori game on Tuesday after school, with Year 9/10 Yellow the winners on the day!
A highlight of the week's celebrations was Māori Kai Night, held in the auditorium on Wednesday from 6pm. Staff and students prepared a hangi earlier in the day, before welcoming families to a casual yet moving evening of song, games, kai and conversation. The kapa haka group performed proudly, and it was especially impressive to hear all of the boys, from year 7 to 13, share their pepeha with confidence in front of the crowd.
After practicing together in period 5, crowds gathered in the auditorium for the hotly contested House Haka Competition. Some boys were giving it a go for the first time, while others are regular performers, but all the boys were enthusiastic and the noise level in the auditorium was high! Congratulations to Emery House who took out the competition.
It was a fantastic week and we look forward to continuing to integrate Te Reo into our daily life.
