Medal haul in the Junior Water Polo league
After nearly a four-week break, our Junior A and Junior B Water Polo teams played their Gold Finals at AUT Millennium last Thursday evening. Tony the Eagle made another appearance and attended both team's finals with a swag of both junior and intermediate players and families in support of both teams.
Junior A were looking for redemption from last year's semi final loss to Kristin A, determined to turn that result around in their final. Junior A took the lead with cohesive defensive work from the team and some spectacular outside shooting. Just when they thought they had the game in the bag, Kristin A made a comeback to even the score 7-7 at full time. A nerve-racking penalty shootout ensued, but ultimately the Rosmini boys held strong, hitting 5 penalties to Kristin’s 4. Final score 12-11 and a Gold medal for the Rosmini Junior A.
As for Junior B, this was the second head to head with Whangaparaoa this year with our boys up 1:0, so there was a lot at stake for the final. Unfortunately the result didn't go our way with a heavy defeat 2-8. The boys had some good periods of play, but in the end Whangaparaoa were just too strong on the night, leaving us taking home the silver this year. Regardless, this was still a great effort for the Junior B team making another Gold Final. The boys still have a lot of water polo over the coming weeks with the Auckland College League and their main tournament event, the Junior North Islands, to look forward to and finish their year strongly.
The Junior C team played at the end of last term in their respective C grade final against Mahurangi College. It was another tough encounter but the boys rose to the challenge, listened to their coaches and took the win 9-6.
Well done to our Junior water polo teams on these results. Special thanks to our parent managers; Rachael Roset, Patricia Khan, Liz Markovina and our coaches; Will Catlin, Matt Leadbeater, Ethan D’Souza, George Parker, Isaac Porter and James McIndoe.
Big thanks to “Tony the Eagle” for coming to support the boys!
