Trans Tasman Water Polo 2024
The Trans Tasman water polo squad spent the final six days of school boarding at Knox Grammar School in Sydney, playing in the Australian vs New Zealand schools competition.
With 20 schools (12 from Australia) competing against the top schools in New Zealand, it was a fierce and exciting tournament. We played a range of private and state boy’s schools from Melbourne and Sydney along with Kings, Westlake and Rangitoto during the competition.
Aussie water polo is different, even more physical and competitive than our Auckland, North Island and National events, so it was a great experience for our younger Rosmini side as the event dictates that you cannot take students in their final year of college. Our most exciting games were against Knox, St. Joseph’s and Cranbrook School. Against Cranbrook we were locked at 8-8 at the final whistle which meant a penalty shoot out. Awesome shots by our key shooters and fantastic saves by goalie Ed Wescott meant we secured the eventual win. Tense moments like these are all good practice for 2025.
Apart from playing 8 games, we managed to do a few adventures including navigating the transport system to Bondi Junction, and the famous Bondi Beach. The final day saw us continue with a bit of Christmas shopping before another afternoon at Bondi. Thankfully no boys needed rescuing by the lifeguards. Huge thank you to Mrs. Karyn Parle (sport’s administrator) for her expert organisation of the trip and supporting Mrs. Peak (Manager) and coach Lachie Griffiths with the boys.
The tournament has a 25-year history and we look forward to the North Shore schools hosting the event in 2025.
