Ash Wednesday 2025
Rosmini College celebrated Ash Wednesday with two masses to mark the beginning of Lent. This season invites us to deepen our spirituality through intentional acts of prayer, fasting, and reflection.
Our Catholic Character leaders played a role in the celebrations, offering prayers and distributing ashes on the foreheads of students to remind them of the importance of seeking reconciliation with God.
Father Mark Bond says: "The 40 days of Lent echo Jesus's time in the wilderness, during which He fasted and was tempted (Luke 4:1-13). The word 'Lent' is a shortened form of the Old English word lencten, which means 'spring season'. During Lent, Christians are encouraged to give up something, whether that's our favourite food or drink, an activity we enjoy, or we might even give up a bad habit we have, like swearing, impatience, or laziness. By giving up something for Lent, we are not only showing God and others that we're serious about preparing ourselves for Easter, but we're also inviting God to help change our hearts and minds so that we can be better people. Lent isn't about making ourselves feel bad, or depriving ourselves of happiness, but rather, it's about focusing on things that really matter (like our relationships with others and with God) instead of getting distracted by things that don't matter (like devices, sinful choices, and so on)."
